Susan Barlow is one of five artists exhibiting as part of our August 2012 show titled ‘Works on Paper“. Her powerful drawings are very emotive and her subject matter full of symbolism and meaning.
“As I draw I edit, it is a private exploration of place and object, a
process for seeing. There is a stillness created through the sustained
gaze – a shifting state of memory.Drawing is integral to remembering,
these autobiographical works are fragments of experiences, the place where
the ephemeral becomes a memorial.”
“Drawing offers me a great intimacy, claiming a special kind of
attentiveness. Each of these works recall moments that need to be
preserved.”
