Joseph L. Griffiths – Works on Paper

Joseph L . Griffiths is a multidisciplinary artist making drawings, participatory installations, and environmental works. His detailed drawings document creative approaches to everyday life, and trace the fluid relationship between technology and the handmade. His recent improvised architectures, interventions in natural environments, artefacts and decorative studies utilise found and natural materials to explore cross-cultural craft practices, vernacular structures and artistic approaches to household tasks. His major public installation Shelters was recently exhibited for the 2012 Next Wave Festival linking creativity, ingenuity and survival within contemporary urbanism.

Joseph graduated form the Victorian College of the Arts in 2007, has undertaken residencies, mentorships and cultural exchange in Europe, Mauritius and North Africa, supported by the Australia Council for the Arts. He is currently undertaking a mentorship with Dylan Martorell. and lives and works in Barwon Heads, Victoria. More of his work can be seen here – http://josephlgriffiths.com/

His intimate and highly detailed drawings are a hugely important addition to our August 2012 exhibition – Works on Paper
