Mickey Egan
Born in Melbourne in 1970, graduating with honours in 1996 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts - Painting, from the Victorian College of the Arts, followed by a Diploma of Education, The University of Melbourne. His work has been shortlisted for the Keith and Elisabeth Murdoch Travelling Fellowship and included in many group exhibitions.
Heavily influenced by his upbringing in the Macedon Ranges where he found freedom and inspiration exploring the forests and broad farmlands. He now spends time hiking with his family along the rugged cliffs and bushland surrounding the Surf Coast and surrounding hinterlands, that has been his home for the last 30 years.
Mickey has been exhibiting since graduation. His painting practice has been sandwiched in-between a hectic career as a Design Director, involving regular international travel and a few years living in America. This enabled inspiring visits to many of the finest galleries and museums of the world.
Egan employs painting and drawing to create a rich visual awareness of his world. Depicting landscapes full of colour and form, that blend between a figurative and abstract depicted space. He is interested in observing nature in real time, then reimagining it later in his studio, where he references literature and art history.
