Ash Leslie, 'Glimmer'
Glimmer is a stunning new body of work that builds upon the allure and impact of Ash Leslie's first solo exhibition at Boom, Light Source.
As is typical of Ash's works, these new paintings are felt more than purely being viewed or observed. Each artwork evokes a response but as a whole they create an atmosphere of calm, longing and a quiet sense of beauty.
ARTIST STATEMENT
"These paintings are reflections of “glimmers” — the opposite of a trigger, they are small moments of joy and gratitude for something quite commonplace. For me it is often something like morning shadows dancing on my bedroom wall, watching my ridiculous dog down the beach, my girls cartwheeling on the grass. I've been feeling a tension with this subject however - it can feel ignorant to lean into beauty when there is so much collective grief in the world. Yet to look away feels like a surrender to those who want to squash joy altogether. In this way creating artworks feels almost like my own act of rebellion - my way of keeping the light on."
