Working with colour, shape and pattern across waxy drawings, fluid gouaches and high-colour oil paintings, Besser has embraced her love of working on paper.
These works show Besser's interest in working with both the freedoms and restrictions of different mediums. Letting the material guide the process: coloured pencil allows for no mistakes (everything is worked out off the paper), gouache can get muddy when layered over and re-wet (the ground is painted in last) and oil paint slows down fast ideas. Each material can teach a different way of working.
