Emily Besser, Pairings: New Work
Emily is interested in creating new visual relationships, as in the craft of poetry, where the familiar is seen afresh. The colours, patterns, shapes and marks that have become part of the visual language of the artist, are spliced, segmented, and finally mended, to create new works: 'Pairings'.
This body of work was completed before leaving for London, UK, where Emily is currently re-establishing her practice. The work was done between bush-walks, school pick-ups and drop-offs, and listening to endless podcasts on spirituality and philosophy.
Emily Besser is an artist and jeweller who has recently relocated to London from her home in Sydney. Surrounded by her young children, Emily’s work is autobiographical and a reflection of her surroundings. Emily’s jewellery and painting practices are very much in sync;-bright, colourful, eclectic and textured. Inspired by daily life, family, environment and collected vintage finds.
'This new collection of works on both paper and board are an exploration of gesture and geometry in painting and drawing.'
