Giulia Violanti, 'KI'N'
"KI’N is a journey through plants and symbols;
embracing the idea that light and nature are our oldest masters. Eyes are drawn up everywhere, as if to indicate that everything around us is alive, from flower to stone: everything lives, everything looks, everything speaks. (If we fail to hear them, maybe we just have to listen up more carefully). KI’Nrepresents a kind of mythical and mystical journey, blending the sacred and the earthly. It narrates my encounters, often with distant cultures, ancient peoples, and indigenous communities.
It all starts with the word K’IN.In the ancient Mayan language (still alive in Yucatan, Mexico) K'IN symbolises the sun. And is just that sun that inspired my artistic imagination.
From plates to tiles, the sun plays the leading role.
In each sun I find a part of myself that I didn’t know, I find an inclusive humanity. Crafted from Australian clay, the plates and tiles seek a connection to their place of origin.The natural Italian red mineral powder pigment, combined with powdered dry-clay and engobe, adorns them.
The idea of community emerges also in the arrangement of these pieces: a collection of unique elements that, when united on a wall, spark wonder.
All the tiles and plates create a pattern made up of elements and symbols collected along my path. Each sun or moon have faces, a joyful faces in which we can all recognise ourselves. I aim to grace the generosity of our earth, celebrate the authentic and intimate pursuit of happiness.
Through this exhibition, I would like to show a new journey, mine."
