Jeremy Vander Noord, 'What Emerges'
What Emerges is a curated solo exhibition featuring a mix of new and early career work from local multidisciplinary artist Jeremy Vander Noord.
This focused, installational show demonstrates the recurring themes and subject matter that underpin and guide the artist's practice. The exhibition is also a vehicle he uses to connect with and affirm his Dutch heritage. This cultural underpinning is quite evident in the artwork; a range of simple objects that are decorated, embellished, and presented simply but beautifully.
ARTIST STATEMENT
"Connecting sentiment and memories from my heritage, through to my early days as an artist, to who I am moving toward being.
Incorporating nerikomi, the Japanese technique of layering and stacking coloured clay, to build pattern into the body of the work itself; the process intuitive and abstract, allowing pattern to emerge rather than be imposed. Rather like life."
