KAZLAND, 'Ethereal Fly Tipping'
We are so excited to host Ethereal Fly Tipping, our first small solo exhibition by KAZLAND.
We have enjoyed his work from afar and it is exciting to see a selection of his paintings here in Australia. The Guildford, UK, based artist has exhibited widely in London and across the UK. KAZLAND has had solo exhibitions in Lisbon, Portugal and San Francisco, USA. Added to this he has been involved in group exhibitions in California, Chicago, Maine and Oregon. We think his work is witty, relevant, fun and dynamic. We believe his work is highly collectible and we are very pleased to show his work for the first time in Australia.
ARTIST STATEMENT
"Ethereal Fly Tipping is a new collection of paintings made to distract from the world.
There's a real array of the sorts of work I make here and that's definitely come from trying to cope with all the fresh anxieties that are cropping up.
Making whatever felt comforting in the moment and slowly steering it towards the other pieces was a new way to work for me and I'm very pleased with the results.
Jumping back to the already finished pieces and adding extra details to help glue everything together, revisit themes, colours.
I think this is my most diverse collection I've made."
The dirt among the trees starts to float away - the apples now pear shaped and heavy as rocks.
Carrying water in stone buckets from the river to give back to those in charge.
We could smell the barn burning from over the hill - the kid kicked over the lantern causing running horses and bad dreams.
Reap what we sow, haunt what we build, climb what we grow.
BIO
KAZLAND, born Callum J. Buckland (Frimley, UK, 1990) is a self taught, mixed media artist from the south of England. A process based artist, rarely working with a plan, he starts each piece letting the work guide itself until an idea starts to form, and then pursuing it until it's end (or a better idea takes over).
He is known for his distinctive mixed-media works that blend abstraction, symbolism and narrative. KAZLAND's works draw from influences such as folk art, design, outsider art and modernist abstraction. His art is characterised by unconventional shadows, shifting perspectives and bold colour contrasts. His works evolve organically, with colours and forms transferring between canvases, reflecting a dynamic exploration of visual language.
