Past Natalie Anderson, Uncharted
"Does anyone else keep starting sentences with “if you had told me two years ago I would be…’? Perhaps not unprecedented, these times do feel uncharted, for our generation at least. If we are fortunate not to have experienced the loss of loved ones, we can certainly catalogue various losses in terms of freedoms, losses that challenge our notions of what we thought was solid ground, the loss of certainty. Turbulent, swirling, crazy times.
These works have been created during a global pandemic but are drawn from time spent in the haven of a humble fishing town tucked beneath the Otway’s on the edge of the Southern Ocean. There is light, there is churn, there is rock - solid ground for a few moments …and then there is none. What changes and what stays the same – an ever-present question that has woven it’s way through my painting practice from day one. Still, the only answers I ever find are in the natural world and this is the one truth for me. I will forever worship in the church of the open sky it seems."
