We are thrilled to welcome Basil Papoutsidis to Boom Gallery! Basil is a young emerging artist from Melbourne who graduated in 2014 from the prestigious Victorian College of the Arts. Basil’s sculptural wall and free standing pieces explore modernist design, architectural language and an interest in the construction industry while also representing an automotive aesthetic. Boom has provided an integral platform for emerging artists to connect and communicate with audiences from the Geelong region in a vibrant and contemporary gallery setting. We are delighted to introduce Basil to our community and contribute in launching his career as an artist. Basil’s artworks utilise materials from the construction industry such as steel, unadorned concrete, PVC, plaster, timber and custom industrial finishes such as powder coating whilst clearly demonstrating his personal interest in custom and muscle car culture. Basil will be showing a selection of recent work to coincide with our latest suite of exhibitions, these will run from 11 March – 11 April with opening celebrations on Friday March 13 from 5:30pm. Basil will also have a solo exhibition at Boom later this year.
