Boom Gallery Director Ren Inei’s second solo exhibition for 2015 – ‘Longing Lots’ is opening this Friday night alongside young artist Harry McEvoy’s solo show ‘SuperRaw’ and our annual Christmas Show. It’s the last opening for the year and with delicious Livewire wines and food by Cater and Co. its looking to be a big night, Don’t miss out! Longing Lots is a new body of paintings for Ren, developed since his recent solo exhibition, Above the Heave Below the Blanket which took place in September this year. The work continues his exploration of the skyscape as subject matter. He depicts through oil paint not how the sky looks but rather how it makes him feel and how he intends to make others feel. Each work is an abstraction and painted from memory not from observation nor developed from photographs. Above the Heave Below the Blanket focused on the sky above the heave of everyday life. A world above the mundane, above the repetition of living and the toll of ageing. Above the heave exists, a dreamlike place …. one of constant change and movement but also of certainty and endurance. Below the blanket is where the viewer looks up but is never able to see in full but rather just hold onto one moment of sky at a time. Longing Lots plays with these themes but is deliberately stripped back, more dreamlike and convey a sense of stillness. Ren is wanting to convey in these new paintings a sense of waiting or longing for things to come …. things not yet realised but deeply hoped for. Exhibition runs from 3-23 December.
