Boom Artist Shelley McKenzie took some snaps of her beautiful home studio and let us know how she is going in this current climate. Here are some images of home that inform my practice. I revisit this interior space as the light and shadows always turn and I find the interplay of form and pattern so satisfying. This is where I paint – overlooking the bush with our darling dogs for companionship- there is light and space and a radio and I can make a cuppa in the peace. Usually I have the work on the ground so I can turn it and move around it and work from different sides. The poor materials get squished and broken but will always take me on some path of discovery with what they do. Here is the dam and the bush that hold and cradle. These are the things that inspire me- the bush changing everyday. For introverts like me-this iso time has been life as usual though am learning Italian with weekly lessons on zoom. I am listening to long slow books while painting- books about changing times and upheavals- George Eliot’s breathtaking Middlemarch, Turnbull’s autobiography and Hilary Mantel’s latest doorstopper. At night I am embroidering and getting my travel fix with international house hunters on TV and the dear company of my husband. Very lucky.
