"This latest series of works titled Present Light, explores atmospheric landscape and connecting with misty ephemeral experiences in nature. This mist that rises and falls, concealing and revealing the sublime and sacred.
As I was creating this series I was drawn to the beauty of soft light where the edges between elements blur. There are days that are just wet and saturating and others where mist floats cool and lightly. This sense of atmosphere is something I have sought to recreate as I remember being caught up in this gentle atmospheric beauty. I think the invitation is to sit with nature and be enveloped by it somehow. To move out of a cerebral process of exploring the complex details and into a place of immersion.
The valleys around the Barwon River, views stretching across to Wurdi Yuang, (the You Yangs) are places that I have drawn references from when composing these works. They are painted with a sense of drawing from the experiences and memories of place. A present light, finding a gentle way of being is what I hope is revealed to those who might connect with this work."
"I feel a great sense of privilege to live and work on Wadawurrung Country where much of the inspiration for my work is drawn from."
