ARTIST STATEMENT
"The breeze has slowed to all but a trickle here - the trees don't move anymore. The animals all noticed long before we did.
Poking holes in the lids so we can breathe and the germs can escape. Sent us spiraling by the right words the wrong way.
Scrambling for a few more good old days - stashed in a log under the bridge.
Sleep without trying - Drink without worry - Everything will be fine in the morning.
The air is softer here now."
"These works were made while reflecting on habits and rituals we develop to find comfort in difficult situations. Holding onto over romanticised memories, blocking out the bad ones.
I don’t ever really paint with a plan or a complete vision, sometimes just a general vibe. I like to start painting and see where the process takes me. When something starts to make sense or speak louder than the rest I’ll pursue it and see where it goes.
I watch a lot of comfort movies and listen to the music I grew up with to help me get in the right head space."
BIO
Kazland, born Callum J. Buckland (Frimley, UK, 1990) is a self taught, mixed media artist from the south of England. A process based artist, rarely working with a plan, he starts each piece letting the work guide itself until an idea starts to form, and then pursuing it until it's end (or a better idea takes over).
