ARTIST STATEMENT
"My new work for 'Graphic' builds on my interest in the interplay of light, shadow, and reflection across built and natural environments, whilst exploring themes of the passage of time, change, self-reflection. In this series, shifting light and shadow serve as metaphors for hope, determination, and resilience found in moments of transition. Using geometric forms, detailed mark-making, and repetition, the work suggests cycles of persistence and renewal, balancing fragility with endurance and movement with stillness. Layered compositions and open-ended titles invite viewers to reflect on personal experience and to consider connections within larger systems of change and transformation.."
BIO
Kels O’Sullivan is an artist with a foundation in design and illustration, having an Honors Degree in Visual Communication (2001). She draws inspiration from her surroundings in the southern coastal and hills regions, her work is characterised by aesthetically balanced compositions that are emotive and conceptually layered. Utilising geometry, colour, pattern, line, and repetition, she investigates the symbolic potential of everyday forms, the articulation of emotion, and the interplay between experience and environment. Her current body of work presents a visual inquiry into the aspects of shadow and reflection across both built and natural landscapes, while conceptually addressing notions of temporality, transformation and introspection.
She has exhibited professionally for the past 9 years, including 3 solo shows with Outré Gallery, various Group shows across SA and Vic, and most recently and notably at Boom Gallery, Geelong in 2025 & 2026.
