    ARTIST STATEMENT

Referencing the juggle between the freedom of movement within ourselves and the world, and the rigid barriers we often place on ourselves, Sarah Kelk explores life as the landscapes we traverse. The grounded feeling of ‘place’ is a reoccurring theme in Kelk's works, as she explores memories of places visited and dreams of places yet to explore, resulting in hazy landscapes full of effervescent movement.

    BIO

Sarah Kelk is a Naarm (Melbourne) based contemporary painter known for her bold and emotive works that explore themes of nature, identity, and personal narrative. Her practice examines processes and influences simultaneously and harmoniously, connecting abstraction with figuration in a new narrative that evokes emotional depth and movement. Energised blocks of colour are central to her work, and although traces of structure appear, references to nature, architecture, personal memories, historical references and everyday life are visible in a less ordered energy.
