Ripple Vase IV with Plinth

By Mali Taylor

"Ripple presents a selection of hand built pieces that explore the theme of action and consequence in the ceramic process. The coils are tenderly rolled and artfully stacked in a process of making that is a balance between artist knowledge and skill. Each object is created with a continuous strand of clay – the actions of the past morphing the realisation of each objects’ form.

The forms of the Ripple Vase Collection, transcend the divide between art object and functional ware, mimicking ancient forms and utilising traditional process in a contemporary exploration of utilitarian ceramics. In contrast, Holding Timerepresents the slow and gestural process of coil methodology creating forms that map the makers touch and mindset invoking memories of archaic Australian landscapes."
