Through her recent body of work, Ingrid Daniell continues to explore her love of landscape, the environment and the link between the magic of earth, the mystery of our existence and the time in which we have had to impact our effect on earth. Using places that have personal connection as her muse, Ingrid paints the landscape as an idyllic folk tale; redolent of a time and place when man had little impact on the earth and its atmosphere. Through stylised, abstracted forms and symbolic paint gestures, Ingrid uses colour and a mix of textures to create magical, emotional and mnemonic landscapes. Ingrid is drawn to colour and texture; creating layers as she paints to build depth and dimension, through her use of colour and suggestive brush strokes she highlights the layers and form of the landscape; the shadows and the light, the crumbling cliffs and shifting flora shaped by weather and time. “I am fascinated by the magic of the shadows and light, the fleeting atmospheric elements of our earth displays; how when connected to them there is an almost spiritual reverence, we stand in awe, it restores, inspires, satisfies, how we crave this beauty from the earth.I aim to speak of a time and place when man had little impact; a metaphor for time and life’s fleeting realities that compound and impact our earth. I am drawn to the landscapes that offer a sense of solitude, majesty, mystery, places that feel removed from the chaos of our current day; they offer a sacred experience. My main muse, South Side and Point Addis; Jarosite Reef and the vast stretch of beach in between the two headlands; provide the perfect metaphor to highlight the state of our earth, climate change, anthropocene, humanity.” “I have spent countless days immersing myself in this sacred landscape, observing the changes in the ocean moods, the ever crumbling cliffs, the shimmer of the light as it plays on the crystal seams in the sediment layers and evidence of life millions of years old preserved in their fragile layers; discovering new perspectives, time for experiential reflection, and connection. I find context in the mystery and beauty of nature to draw an awareness to our fragile earth’s climate, an awareness of time, the shadows of life and the light of life. Time, has sped up, our impact has greatened, our lives are in control, we are so overly connected; yet completely out of control and disconnected…” “It is with deep respect I acknowledge the traditional lands of the Wada Wurrung people and honour and pay my respect to their Elders past and present and emerging.” Ingrid Daniell is a visual artist and painter, who works in her studio on the Surf Coast of Victoria Australia. Ingrid is inspired by the landscapes that surrounds her, the Surfcoast and the Great Ocean Road, remote Australia and its many national parks; the East Coast of Tasmania; places that are close to her life and experiences.
