ARTIST STATEMENT
"The past has played an essential part in much of my work. I use nostalgia and vintage objects as timestamps to when the Vietnamese diaspora first started moving across the world and began settling in new countries. With this work I wondered if it was possible to extricate myself from that past, if I could be in the present without the past informing what I do and how I think. The violence in this question is the violence of identity to the exclusion of all else."
