This little Arizonan daisy (called Blazing Sun) welcomed me when I first dropped into the botanical gardens in Adelaide a few weeks after leaving hotel quarantine. It’s not a native but was basking in the sunny climate here. I wanted to highlight the little stunner so gave the sun like flower lots of space to shine. I’ve started the painting with layer upon layer of light brights including pinks and oranges, with the intention of blanketing the layers in various shades of velvety green. This has resulted in minimal colour (for me) but loads of depth and texture. The green is sectioned to represent the pathways and roads I’ve traversed while familiarising myself with a new place.
