ARTIST STATEMENT
Sassy Park is a Sydney based artist interested in the history of ceramics, objects and ideas. Ceramics are well suited to memorialising the intimacies of the everyday and it is these quotidian matters that find their way into Park’s work. Her artworks play with the accepted uses of domestic ceramics and historical art genres. Pots, plates and figurative works express ideas of vulnerability and fragility through their scale, intimacy, and humour. The long standing tradition of text on plates which includes commemorative and souvenir plates, make them a portable surface on which to carry a message and links to Park’s central practice of painting. This humble object takes on a poetic power.
