ARTIST STATEMENT
"Watching another ‘looking’ or witnessing the tenderness of hands fast at work is such an exciting capability. The weight of sensitivity in that moment and the desire to transcribe and immortalise the minute lets you relive it over and over. For these two works the figure is an embodiment of time, and only an instant. These candid moments aren’t aware of their extraordinary effects, making them welcoming images to pause and rest in."
BIO
Ruby Archer is an emerging painter from Tasmania, currently completing her third year of a Bachelor of Fine Arts at RMIT University. Over the past two years, she has participated in multiple group exhibitions across Victoria and held her first solo exhibition at the beginning of this year. Her sustained attention with subjects slowly become a physical manifestation of looking, her practice explores the relationship between perception, time, and representation.
