By Dean De Landre
ARTIST STATEMENT
"'Night Sky' is part of an ongoing investigation of landscape's function in the comic medium.
In making this work I was thinking about how colour impacts the way we feel and relate to images of landscape.
BIO
"Dean De Landre is a Torquay based artist interested in the intersection between nostalgia, popular culture and the natural world. Through appropriating found imagery, Dean explores how we relate to nature through books, television, video games and other cultural ephemera. By removing this imagery from its original context, his practice encourages us to contemplate images in a new-found way.
He has exhibited both throughout Australia and internationally and has been a finalist in the Albany, Hornsby and BAM art prizes. He completed a residency through the LAB program at Platform Arts in 2020 and was selected for the 2021 iteration of the Perth Institute of Contemporary Art’s annual graduate show “Hatched”.
Dean completed a double degree of Arts/Visual Arts at Monash University, Honours (First Class) in Creative Arts from Deakin University and is a current PHD candidate and lecturer at Deakin University."
