"These works explore the potential of the vessel surface. My loosely constructed handbuilt forms are finished with layers of underglaze, glaze, lustre and vitreous enamels. The built-up surface sometimes hiding previous marks made. Visually I have taken references from the nostalgia of circus and performance structures and costuming while making these pots. The history of the clown, harlequin and associated textiles along with traditional folklorish masks and dress from Scotland and Ireland have informed the surface decoration. I can attribute my curiosity towards this imagery to recently having a baby and my keen interest in decorating the space around the cot at home. The transformation of my visual language through matrescence is rendered in my pots."
