ARTIST STATEMENT

"In my body of work, I showcase vintage pottery, collectables, and textiles from places like Morocco, Africa, China, and Japan, each piece reflecting the rich artistic traditions of its culture and telling a unique story. By incorporating fruits, plants, and flowers into my displays, I aim to evoke memories and emotions, connecting the past with the present and adding depth to the objects while highlighting their special qualities. Curating these items is a meditative practice for me, deepening my respect for both living and non-living things, and honouring the spirit of the materials and their creators. Through this process, I hope to invite viewers to reflect on the connections between cultures and the lasting impact of their art. Ultimately, my work is a tribute to craftsmanship and a celebration of the universal links that unite us across time and space, encouraging us to pause, observe, and connect more deeply with the world."

BIO

"I am a self-taught still life artist based in Geelong, with a 27-year journey deeply rooted in European painting traditions. My work blends cherished memories from my childhood in Penang, Malaysia, with my experiences in Australia, all brought to life through the mastery of traditional oil techniques. With a focus on light, colour, and the often-overlooked details of everyday life, I aim to create compositions that evoke personal connections and invite viewers to pause and reflect. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of showcasing my art in solo and group exhibitions across Malaysia, Australia, and Italy, gaining recognition for my distinctive perspective. My pieces have been acquired by a range of collectors, including the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusuf, the Malaysian Ambassador to Italy and Namibia, as well as private collectors from Malaysia, Australia, and Africa, underscoring the universal appeal of my work. One of the defining moments of my career was an exclusive showcase at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Melbourne during a ‘Business Networking Reception’ for Malaysia’s National Day, where my work was met with high praise from the Consulate General of Malaysia. This event, alongside an interview on SBS Australia’s SBS Bahasa Melayu, allowed me to reach a broader audience and solidify my presence in the art community."
