A garden sanctuary that contains a lone but peaceful lily like flower in the middle (possibly me being “new” to an unfamiliar city) sitting above is a hilltop shape that references the Adelaide hills - always present in the distance like a beacon as I traverse the suburbs.
My work oscillates between gestural abstraction and figuration, so some elements are easy to identify and others are more obscure and simplified. In this painting beds of flowers are suggested by blurry rectangular shapes as well as clearer representations of shrubs / plants / trees. The local botanical gardens were a place of peace and reflection for me.
