ARTIST STATEMENT
"These works are a continuation of pictures I make of the human face. I try and find expressions that suggest a story, an emotion, a snapshot. I am very much led by marks I make rather than beginning the work with any real sense of the outcome. It often begins as something else entirely. The face that appears surprises me…which I find joyful."
BIO
Peter Berner is a Sydney based studio artist. His work is by and large centred around portrait and landscape. He graduated from NAS in the mid nineties and has exhibited in solo and group shows. He has been included as a finalist in a number of prizes including twice in the Archibald prize, Mosman Art Prize, Waverley, Muswellbrook, Sunshine Coast, National Still Life and Adelaide Perry Drawing Prize, Tattersall’s Landscape Prize.
He also works a live performer as a stand up comic in Australia and abroad and has hosted TV and radios shows and has many festival appearances.
