"This group of very small oil paintings came together over this past year. My approach was to work rapidly and intuitively on each painting with the aim of not getting weighed down with issues of composition, colour or subject matter. This deliberate immediacy allowed me to just enjoy the process and pleasure of mixing and merging paint. This occurred on the surface of the artwork rather than on the palette.
These works are glimpses, impressions and lived memories of our incredible South West Victorian landscape. It’s volcanic hills, flat plains and rugged coastline. My intention is to allude to the landscape, not to depict it; to ‘speak’ of something but not to describe it. I love this region of ours and I hope these paintings show in someway that love."
