ARTIST STATEMENT

"Plates have long been displayed on walls as markers of beauty and meaning, often carrying significance beyond their ordinary use. I am drawn to how these familiar objects, made for the table, are elevated once hung on the wall, inviting a different kind of attention. With this group show I wanted to offer a small sliver of warmth while we wait for the sun."

BIO

Peta Armstrong makes high-fired stoneware ceramics from her home studio on Wadawurrung Country along Victoria’s Surf Coast.

Drawn to both wheel-throwing and hand-building, she creates a balance between functional pieces and sculptural works, each carrying a sense of quiet contemplation. Inspired by natural landscapes, shifting textures, and the meditative rhythm of making, her work embodies an organic sensibility—one that invites touch, interaction, and reflection. This ongoing dialogue within the practice is deeply tied to process—where busy hands allow the mind to wander, returning again to these familiar markings. In this way, the work not only gives permission to daydream but gently guides the viewer there.
