Cricket Saleh
ARTIST STATEMENT
Cricket Saleh explores the genre of Still Life through photography, simultaneously referencing art historical understandings of the medium and subverting it.
Through her use of considered lighting and subject matter, storytelling is highlighted through the placement of the object, which is underpinned by a sparse and painterly approach.
Her photographs depict an ongoing interest in the ephemeral nature of life - where beauty, indulgence, consumption and decay are underlying themes in work.
At its essence, her work is interested in the human condition - where non permanence and invisible narratives allude to something more, something just out of reach.
BIO
Cricket Saleh was born in Geelong to an illustrator and a photographer. She works in photography and in a professional context is highly sought after for her completely unique approach to image making.
Having studied a BA in Photography (Honours) at RMIT, she has a seemingly effortless ability to capture the feeling and atmosphere of a concept. Alongside her artistic practice, Cricket runs a successful commercial photography studio - focusing on the interior and the fashion space.
Cricket’s work has been collected widely across Australia and internationally, with her recent work This Too Shall Pass, having been acquired into the permanent collection of the Geelong Gallery.
