ARTIST STATEMENT

Liz Wickramasinghe’s richly layered paintings explore the landscapes, ecologies, and botanica of her local environments on Wadawurrung Country (Bellarine and the Surf Coast). Surrounded by marshy wetlands and native grasslands in Armstrong Creek, she draws inspiration from the natural forms that shape her surroundings. Through a combination of painting, masking, and relief-printmaking techniques, Liz explores layering, repetition, linework, and pattern, reflecting the naturally recurring rhythms, diversities and complexities found in the landscape. These methods highlight the textures and motifs that have become signatures of her visual language, resulting in intricate and textured surfaces. Her work also seeks to capture the movement and quiet wonder of these environments, inviting viewers to experience the sense of awe she finds in these natural places.
