ARTIST STATEMENT
"Recently I have become very engaged in imagery of women in the kitchen. It's a place I enjoy inhabiting and is the centre of my own household. I write this very statement from my kitchen Island. I plan my week here, I work here, I laugh here, I cry here, I connect with friends and family here, I muse on life here, I clean, I tidy, I sing, I dance, I cook, I eat, I drink, and I am myself here. In these images I have attempted to capture candid and fleeting moments of women at ease in this space."
BIO
Phoebe Stone is a Sydney-based artist working on Cammeraygal land. Known for her expressive depictions of domestic life, she has exhibited in numerous group and solo shows and is represented in private collections both in Australia and internationally.
Stone’s work is defined by her exploration of composition, colour, pattern, and texture. With her expressive, urgent and intuitive mark making she renders the intimate and the everyday—scenes of food, household objects, and the quiet details of daily life. For Stone the act of creating is as significant as the finished piece, a meditative process of translating feeling and memory into form, underpinned by a desire to hold onto beauty and fleeting experience.
